Downer Australia recently celebrated the opening of its state of the art integrated manufacturing facility in Hume near Canberra. The facility showcases environmental best practice, energy efficiency and supports Downer’s commitment to Zero Harm and environmental sustainability. This enables Downer to meet the changing demands of customers and the market in readiness for industry changes in carbon policies.

Our continued investment has resulted in the development of a range of products that are more energy efficient and reduce our carbon footprint. These products take into consideration water and energy consumption, use of clean natural gas, the latest in building material construction/ techniques and recycling up to 40 per cent of RAP (recycled asphalt product) in new asphalt products.

Andrew Barr ACT Deputy Chief Minister and Gai Brodtmann, Member for Canberra officially opened the facility.

“It is pleasing to see the innovative technology that is being used by Downer to recycle old asphalt into the mix - at least 30 percent is reusable - another win for the environment”, Mr Barr said.

The integrated manufacturing facility will deliver road surfacing products and services to ACT and Southern NSW.
