Project Scope: At the end of October 2008, Downer was awarded a contract to divert 10.2 kilometres of Blackwater Creek, which would allow Wesfarmers Curragh to access coal reserves beneath the creek.
Services provided: The project involved bulk earthworks, civil works, and the revegetation of approximately 167ha of land, to form the new habitat for the creek’s flora and fauna. The aim was to deliver a stable, self-functioning ecosystem, with a key focus on biodiversity. Downer worked closely with Wesfarmers Curragh to optimise the environmental outcomes of the project, planting native grasses, shrubs and over 28,000 trees. The diversion opened in December 2009.
