Project Scope: The main runway of the airport has been strengthened, widened and lengthened by 600m to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft used by the military and international VIPs. The increased capacity will allow the airport to cope with the expected doubling of passenger numbers to four million by 2020.
Services provided: By establishing Australia’s largest mobile asphalt plant on site we were able to maximise the use of our time. A sizeable team of 90 staff and contractors were needed to achieve the required laying of 1700 tonnes of asphalt every night. We changed the design of taxiway pavements which reduced the construction programme by five weeks. We received a highly commended award from Engineers Australia for Innovation Project Planning.
