Mark is a highly capable strategic and technical leader, with extensive experience across several industries, including the last 20 years’ in senior executive management roles. He has significant experience in technology-based industries with expertise in developing and executing business strategy aligned to the core competencies of the company and particularly in developing technical capability and talent. 

Micheal served 12 years in the Royal Australian Air Force as an Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer in the Avionics discipline. Micheal progressed into other supporting roles as part of his RAAF career, spending most of his career within maintenance control and operations, developing the technical maintenance foundations he holds today. 

Micheal joined Downer in June 2017 and is a loyal and highly motivated operations and maintenance professional with a proven track record in leading high-performing teams and managing complex projects, including PPP arrangements. He holds a deep understanding of operational process, risk management, maintenance fundamentals and project management, which he utilises to optimise efficiency and productivity in his role as Operations Manager at our largest TLS site – Auburn Maintenance Centre.

Rebecca manages marketing, brand and communications for Downer’s $1 billion rail business. 

With over 12 years’ of experience in her profession, she has worked globally across the public and private sectors, including with ASX100 and Fortune 500 companies. 

Rebecca joined Downer in 2021 following the completion of her Master of Business Administration from Monash Business School. She was Treasurer for the Emerging Mobility Leaders Committee for two years and is currently the Professional Development Chair of the International Association of Business Communicators. 

Brendon has successfully led and built consulting and services businesses within the ICT industry for 20+ years, both within Tier 1 organisations such as Telstra and Downer, and in smaller privately owned organisations such as CDRU. His industry experience includes the telco, utilities, rail, finance, and construction sectors.

Brendon has the business competencies, commercial competencies and technical competencies such that he can “bridge the gap” between the worlds so that the engagements his consults on and manages deliver tangible business benefits. His reporting level is typically to CFO, CIO and Head of Businesses.

Dan is a Mechanical Engineer with a Master of Project Manager, with over 10 years’ experience in the rail industry through downer.

His roles at Downer have included engineering, project management, corporate risk, sales, bids and commercial strategy.

In his current role as General Manager – NSW Projects & Contract Delivery, he is responsible for the end-to-end project lifecycle (business development, bidding and delivery) of NSW projects for Downer’s Rail & Transit Systems business.

 

Jim immigrated to Australia in 1989 where he joined Standard Communication as an Electronic Engineer, providing engineering solutions in manufacturing of CB radio, marine radio, base station and repeater of mobile voice and data communication. 

Jim joined Downer in 1998 as an Automation Engineer / Service manager and for the last 25 years he has been providing engineering solutions for many different sectors including gold mines, cement production, water treatment facilities, industrial and the rail sector. 

He has enjoyed working to provide Weigh-In Motion weighbridges to weigh trains and seeing different parts of this beautiful country. He enjoy the relationships he has created with clients and enjoys working with Downer’s Automation Engineering team to come up with solutions that suit the customers applications and requirements.

 

Tony is a mid-senior-level ICT and Integration Engineer with experience developing engineering solutions and testing systems and software components. This includes producing safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective designs; supporting production, maintenance and test & commissioning with timely engineering advice and concessions; identification of the root cause of problems across the fleet; managing technical risks and opportunities with internal and external stakeholders.

Tony is currently involved heavily in supporting train dynamic testing within the Metro Tunnel. Previous to this, Tony has led technical delivery and support project delivery for the Fleet Life Extension Project and Modifications. 

Dean has worked for tier 1 consulting and technology global organisations for over 20 years. The past decade, Dean has been helping tier 1 asset intensive organisations transform their business operations. As a mentor to space industry start-ups and small business, Dean's addition to xDNA brings a balance of leading-edge technology exposure along with critical infrastructure experience.

Dean joined the xDNA team as Head of Growth in October 2023 to develop and drive Go-To-Market and commercialisation offerings. The success of xDNA is intrinsically linked to the value we add to Downer and our clients.  We only sell what we have tried and tested on ourselves, like you, we want outcomes that deliver faster time to value and ensures our frontline workers are safer, more productive and part of solution.

Dean has extensive experience across multiple industries, including manufacturing, mining, State Government, utilities, critical infrastructure, aerospace amd Defence. He has been solely focused on the solving the top industry challenges leveraging humans and technology to transform complex organisations whilst working collaboratively across industry to address our biggest challenges. 

Kris is an experienced Procurement Professional with a career spanning multiple branches of heavy industry.  He brings diverse experience from Steel Making, Construction & Construction Materials. Kris has worked in the rail industry since 2018 firstly with Pacific National and latterly with Downer Rail & Transit Systems.

At Downer RTS, Kris leads the Category Management Team which is responsible for sourcing and contracting with suppliers at all stages of projects’ lifecycle, from Bid to Delivery phase.

Kris is a Chartered Member of CIPS (the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) and holds an MA in International Management from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

 

Torben holds the position of GM – Customer at Downer. In this role he focuses on working with customers to meet shared objectives delivering revenue growth through customer satisfaction

Torben has held a number of leadership, director and board level positions, most recently driving transport and infrastructure objectives. 

He has an awarded track record with over 20 years' experience in leading business groups with the responsibility for defining and leading the implementation of business strategy. 

Prior to his work in transport and infrastructure, Torben forged a successful career in financial services, before pivoting into building online businesses to successfully deliver strategic opportunities.

Jon believes the future of our work lies at the intersection between humans, technology, and the environment we work in.  

As the Head of Future Work Solutions at xDNA – A Downer Company, Jon focusses on augmenting and educating our incredible people with innovative technology to revolutionise the relationship and interactions between the front-line worker and the organisation.

Jon’s journey encompasses roles in Aviation Maintenance and Automotive manufacture, before joining Downer Rail as National Quality Manager in 2011.  

Within xDNA Jon leverages his operational experience to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, helping them identify digital strategy enhancements and swiftly devising solutions that generate tangible value. Jon is committed to advancing the digital transformation of organisations, ensuring that the future of work is both efficient and effective.

An operational delivery professional with a career spanning more than 30 years in the UK & Australian transport industry. Stephen’s extensive experience has encompassed the management of diverse teams, spanning various critical areas, including production, safety, engineering, supply chain, finance, and operations.

Beyond his operational and technical acumen, Stephen is driven by a profound passion for leadership, with a keen focus on delivering safe and reliable outcomes for both customers and the communities they serve throughout Australia. His leadership style encourages thought leadership and fosters an environment of innovation, diligence and commitment among his teams. This approach is pivotal in the continuous improvement of safety standards, operational performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Stephen's journey at Downer Rail commenced in May 2014, where he has held a number of Operational & Project roles, before his existing appointment to EGM Operations for Rail & Transit Systems. Prior to his tenure at Downer Rail, he accumulated over two decades of valuable experience in operational and engineering roles within the UK rail industry, where his career is marked by several leadership positions within Alstom Transport (UK). 

Stephen is a Chartered Engineer, holding a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, and is a member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology.

 

Kamal is an experienced project management and delivery professional, with more than 25 years’ experience in various sectors including rail, utilities, and social infrastructure. 

He is currently the Executive General Manager, Passenger North & Contractors Representative, QTMP for Downer. This role sees him overseeing Downer’s passenger portfolio in NSW and Qld, and also the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP). QTMP is Queensland’s largest ever investment in rail, designed to meet the increasing demands of Queensland's population and economic growth by delivering high-quality rolling stock solutions, which will support the Cross River Rail project and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kamal has held several senior executive positions, including Project Director for the Sydney Growth Trains Project, executive responsibility for the HCMT project in Victoria, Managing Director for Bombardier Malaysia, and Head of South East Asia for Bombardier Transportation. He is recognised for his ability to deliver projects in complex environments, with a focus on localising supply chains and industrial footprints. 

Kamal is also a Governance Team Member of the Rail Fusion Alliance (with Queensland Rail) and a Board Member of the Rail Heritage Advancement Queensland. His leadership has been instrumental in successfully introducing numerous rolling stock fleets into services. 

Chris is a dedicated ICT and Integration Engineer with a stellar track record spanning three years in the dynamic field of rollingstock. 

His expertise extends to crafting comprehensive engineering specifications, producing insightful engineering reports, and orchestrating the design and testing of ICT system hardware and software components. His relentless pursuit of excellence ensures the delivery of safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective designs.

Beyond the drawing board, Chris is deeply involved in the entire project lifecycle, providing invaluable engineering advice and concessions to support production, maintenance, and test & commissioning phases. His analytical prowess shines as he identifies root causes of issues across the rollingstock fleet while adeptly managing technical risks and capitalising on opportunities, all in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Chris's passion lies in advancing technology in the rollingstock industry to reduce operational costs and enhance work efficiency, making him an indispensable asset in this ever-evolving domain.

Currently the General Manager of Downer’s Digital business, xDNA, I am responsible for driving key digital transformation initiatives within Downer as well as building a services business that seeks to help digitally transform the industries that Downer operates in across Australia and New Zealand.

Over her 13-year tenure at Downer, Sylvia has excelled in leading diverse engineering teams and functions. Her extensive scope of duties encompassed supervising train construction and delivery projects, ensuring compliance, providing independent assurance, furnishing operational support, managing assets, and handling configuration and design engineering.

After completing her undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, Sylvia pursued her passion for transportation by joining the Rail industry, commencing her professional journey at Downer as a graduate engineer. She has since achieved Charted status in asset management, electrical expertise, and leadership, marking her continued growth within the company.

Currently serving as the Engineering Manager, Sylvia adeptly employs a results-driven approach through effective people management. This methodology enables her to establish a strategic framework that delineates essential processes, targets, and objectives, cultivating a high-performance team and fostering a positive work environment.

Recognised for her authentic approach and lateral thinking, Sylvia thrives on challenges, firmly advocating the impact of consistent, incremental steps in achieving tangible results on a daily basis.

Tim is a Senior Downer Engineering Manager with 30 years of experience in the rail industry in the field of Mechanical Engineering. His positions in Downer over the 30 years have allowed Tim to gain a broad and complete level of experience relating to the Management, Design and Manufacture of Rail Vehicles including international experience.

Tim is currently in the role of Design Authority for Rail and Transit Systems at Downer holding final approval of Engineering Design and Changes for NSW passenger rail projects.

Tim commenced at Downer 30 years ago as a Cadet Engineer and Tim now includes management of the Engineering Graduate and Cadet program within Downer RTS as part of his role in Downer. He is enthusiastic about mentoring and assisting the professional development of young Engineering professionals working in Downer.

Robert started with Downer in 2006 as an Electrical Apprentices working across several sectors including service, construction and industrial. 

In 2012 he moved to the Downer Automation team working across all of Australia seeing how weighbridges can benefit customers and the rail industry alike. He enjoys the connections made with our clients and working with the team to come up with solutions to suit the client’s applications. In July he welcomed his first daughter.  

Jacqueline is a highly dedicated and success-driven Senior Marketing and Product Manager with experience in delivering marketing strategy and executing tactical plans for organisation’s that focus on Go-To-Market (productisation) of services/ solutions across SaaS based technologies. 

She recently joined Downer in 2022 as Product Marketing Manager focused on our next generation asset management digital system, TrainDNA. 

Jacqueline has worked in technology for over 20 years leading and supporting organisations to embrace digital transformation through strategic commercial adoption of technological platforms and services within ANZ and globally. In 2020 she was awarded NetApp’s ANZ Marketing Excellence Award.

Richard is the Delivery Procurement Manager under Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) for NSW and VIC, leading a team in overseeing the delivery of Procurement activities in its respective regions. With a key emphasis on supplier relationship management, commercial negotiations, proactive strategic planning and execution of procurement strategies, Richard's prior expertise has enabled him to create long-term value that helps Downer's business plan be successfully carried out.

Richard initiated his career within Finance and is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA); he has worked in various industries ranging from Fast Moving Consumable Goods (FMCG), Industrial Hardware and Safety and Construction before joining Downer. He has been with Downer for over 10+ years, he has exposure and a deep understanding of both Passenger Rollingstock and Locomotives.

To date, major accomplishments achieved by Richard include supporting the successful tendering of the HCMT (VIC) and SGT (NSW) Fleets, the delivery of tranche 1 and 2 of the SGT Fleet in NSW and Through Life Support of various train fleets.

Over a span of nearly twenty years, Jean has accumulated extensive experience across diverse fields, including Government organisations, asset management, and the travel industry. 

Jean has dedicated six years of her career to excelling in Bid Management. Her expertise spans the entire bid lifecycle, from identifying opportunities and qualifying them to developing and submitting proposals. This profound understanding consistently results in securing contracts successfully across various industries, skilfully aligning business objectives with client needs. 

Among the organisations she has partnered with are the Ministry of Health New Zealand, Auckland Transport, UGL, Busways, and Downer.

Eric is a Solutions Implementation Specialist at xDNA, one of Downer’s newest digital transformation capabilities. With a passion for technology and a commitment to delivering innovative solutions, Eric has played a pivotal role in helping organizations adapt and thrive in the digital era.

Eric's expertise lies in translating complex technical concepts into practical, actionable strategies. His in-depth knowledge of digital transformation tools and methodologies has enabled him to guide numerous clients towards achieving their business objectives and staying ahead in today's rapidly evolving landscape.

Usman oversees Strategy, Growth and Emerging markets functions for Rail and Transit System business unit of Downer. Usman has been in senior commercial delivery, innovation, partnerships and corporate strategy roles since 2008. He is a professional engineer with more than 18 years of experience, and has qualifications in civil engineering, environmental engineering, sustainable development and a MBA. Usman has business experience in Asia, Australia and New Zealand and has previously worked with KiwiRail, EnergyAustralia, Jacobs and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Sharat is a seasoned global procurement and operations leader with a successful track record of transforming and implementing change in complex organizations. A skilled, commercially astute engineer with the expertise to engage and influence multiple stakeholder groups.

He has been instrumental in establishing the Queensland Procurement Team and delivering a number of rolling stock projects for Downer.

Prior to joining Downer in 2022, Sharat has effectively driven and overseen an Australian rollingstock business within the ICT space for 13+ years contributing to a variety of rolling stock projects around the world.

With over 30 years’ experience in rail operations across Australia, Troy as the Executive General Manager Freight & Motive Systems provides strategic direction, leadership and planning for the future development of business.

Troy is committed to decarbonisation and transitional technologies to reduce emissions as well as embracing the true power of technology to find solutions which meet the requirements of Downers customers across Australia and New Zealand.  

Ashley has more than 16 years of business development, sales and industry experience, primarily within the rail and transport industry.

While working at Downer, he has held senior positions in Victoria and Queensland whilst developing new business opportunities, managing the bid / tender process, and negotiated contracts through to tender award.

Ashley has a transformational approach, able to quickly build rapport with clients and stakeholders through a strategic professional methodology. Ashley is tenacious, persistent and inquisitive, all traits that contribute to an innovative approach to problem solving. He can quickly and easily tackle obstacles and overcome hurdles, producing exceptional results for all parties.

In addition, he has successfully developed and managed business development through the generation of new contacts, yielding increased profitability and improved customer and employee satisfaction. he has proactively identified new opportunities for business development, consistently achieving objectives through the implementation of cogent strategies and processes for Account Management and Business Development.

Harry is responsible for executing Downer’s local industry strategy through development of strong partnerships across customers, supply chain, academia, and social enterprises.

His expertise extends to a deep understanding of global and local industry, enabling the identification emerging opportunities that promote impactful alliances and industry development.

With over 12 years’ experience in the rail sector, Harry has previously held senior roles across procurement and category management at Downer and Hitachi, with a strong focus on relationships.

 

Adam is passionate about developing local industry capability and the benefits that local content mandates bring to the industry and wider society. He is a member of Downer’s inclusion & belonging committee and a proven advocate for improving diversity and inclusion.

Adam began his career in the automotive industry working with Ford and then Toyota, before joining the rail industry in 2010. Originally from Melbourne, Adam has lived and worked throughout Australasia, Europe and Asia.

Adam is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, a Chartered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

Jason is a young rail professional engineer who looks to research, develop and integrate innovative and sustainable Maintenance 4.0 solutions into the rail industry. 

Jason has a background in Mechatronics Engineering and Mathematical Statistics and looks to leverage the latest cutting-edge technology to integrate into both design and maintenance of rolling stock services. 

Jason’s experience at Downer includes:

  • Development of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance reports in Downer’s TrainDNA platform.
  • Support of maintenance interval optimisation for the Waratah Series 1 and 2 train fleets in NSW. 
  • Design of ICT solutions to integrate into existing Queensland passenger trains allowing remote condition monitoring and an improved passenger experience. 

Jason now focuses on developing Rail & Transit Systems technology strategy and integration of innovative automated robotic solutions in the maintenance and operations business, to allow the rail industry to transition to Maintenance 4.0 practices.

In 2023, Jason was a finalist for the Australasian Rail Industry Awards Young Rail Professional of the Year.
