Downer has many Business Units, Subsidiary businesses, and partnerships. Opportunities are available for short-term periods of time and can be organised on a case-by-case basis.

Career paths
Mentor Program
Most of Downer's Business Units provide internal and external mentor programs. A formal mentoring program is a structured, one-on-one relationship in a work setting. The purpose of a mentoring program is to connect people, increase knowledge and build skills for future goals. This is often between a senior within Downer and a junior.
Buddy Program
A buddy program is an informal version of a mentor program. The buddy system is a procedure in which two individuals, the "buddies", operate together as a single unit so that they are able to monitor and help each other. This is often between peer to peer.
Graduate Program
Our graduate program is one of the best in the industry. Downer is a GradAustralia Top 100 Graduate Employer, a GradNZ Top 100 Employer, and an AFR Top 100 Graduate Employer. We offer graduates a range of opportunities in engineering, communication, information technology, commercial, legal, finance, human resources, cyber security, robotics, and Zero Harm disciplines right across our diverse businesses. To be considered we look for motivated team players who pride themselves on their innovative thinking and service delivery outlook. We aim to develop well-rounded, highly skilled professionals by exposing graduates to the wider business before being a specialist in one area. To be considered for the Graduate program, applicants must:
- Be a recent graduate (within the past two years) or a penultimate year student graduating early in the year of the intake
- Have a university degree in the relevant discipline
- Be mobile (able to work and live in any state of Australia)
- Have full Australian working rights.

You can combine paid work and training on exciting projects, developing many of the practical skills that we require of our teams. We offer cadetships and traineeships at various projects across Downer, providing the support and skills you'll need to master the basics, grow your practical experience and begin a successful career.
Learning & Development Catalogue
Downer opens an extensive internal training catalogue each year which has a plethora of training events to attend.
Workplace giving program
Workplace giving is a simple way to regularly donate to charities that are entitled to receive tax deductible donations.
Downer offers workplace giving whereby the amount you direct is deducted from your pay and equally spread to the 4 charities of choice. The workplace giving program does not affect the way your gross income, super guarantee payments or fringe benefits are worked out. There is no minimum or maximum contribution required to participate, but the total amount must be claimed through your tax return regardless of whether you have been getting payday tax benefits for your donations. At the end of the financial year, your payment summary will include the total amount you donated to charities.
BSC Group Solutions Training
Free courses for Downer software and systems. All employees can access virtual delivery training dates and times by accessing the calendar and self-enrol in 100+ eLearn courses across Downer’s Global Systems.
