Hawkins at the Master Builders Commercial Project Awards
02/06/2022
Congratulations to our Hawkins team who won a grand total of seven awards at the Master Builders Commercial Project Awards in Christchurch on Friday 20 May 2022.
With four projects nominated across multiple categories, it was Hawkins’ Foodstuffs North Island head office and Mediaworks fit-out projects that were the biggest winners, both claiming ‘best’ in their national categories. Foodstuffs was awarded the CARTERS Commercial Project award, and Mediaworks won Resene Commercial Fit-out.
The Foodstuffs project was also awarded the much-coveted overall Sustainability Award. This award is based on the environmental features of the design and recognises the relationship our man-made buildings have with the environment.
Sustainability was a major focus throughout this build. The office building is connected to a solar system generating electricity from a solar array located on the roof of the neighbouring distribution centre. This is the country’s largest solar farm and generates enough electricity to meet the site’s needs, while sending extra back to the grid. A federated BIM model assisted the team in evaluating and manipulating the sustainability performance, and to achieve targeted solar performance, thermal efficiency, and rainwater harvesting. The project has also been awarded a Greenstar 6 rating.
Awards judges noted that Hawkins exhibited “expert skill and workmanship”, and that they were “blown away by this beautifully executed office headquarters, which has been well situated to overlook the archeologically significant Ōtuataua Stonefields reserve and the volcanic craters.”
Hawkins’ Bledisloe Carpark and 10 Madden Street build projects were also acknowledged by the awards, receiving Gold in each of their categories.
Congratulations to all the teams involved, it’s great to see our hard work and innovation recognized by the building industry. See all winners here.
