Downer donates $50,000 to local charities

Local Heroes, a part of our Downer Donate program, donates funds to local charities and causes nominated by our employees.

This year, over 80 heartfelt nominations from our people led to a total of $50,000 in donations to a selected 10 charities.

Through this initiative, our people nominated causes across our four key giving focus areas:

• Education and Employment,
• Local Communities, 
• Environment and Climate Change, and 
• Health and Wellbeing.

The Downer Giving Committee selected 10 charities to receive $5000 each towards their services. Here's a glimpse into these inspiring organisations:

• Bendigo Foodshare - Provides essential food support to over 13,000 people weekly through their network of 80+ partners.
• Beyond DV - Empowers women and children rebuilding their lives after domestic violence, promoting safety and equality.
• LiteHause International – Delivers digital learning to 202,000 students across Asia-Pacific, including distributing 6,700 laptops to remote Australian regions.
• Port Stephens Koala Hospital – Rescue and rehabilitation of koalas and native wildlife.
• RizeUp - Provides vital support and advocacy for families affected by domestic violence, empowering them towards safety and stability.
• Sydney Wildlife – Provides 24/7 rescue and care services for native animals, supported solely by dedicated volunteers.
• The Village Gifts Trust – Offers essential aid and a safe haven for the disadvantaged and homeless in Coopers Plains
• UnitingCare Kippax – Enhances community wellbeing in West Belconnen, fostering inclusivity and support for all.
• WA Police Legacy – Provides crucial support to the families of fallen and incapacitated police officers across Western Australia.
• Wellness in Infrastructure – Promotes mental health and wellbeing across Australia's construction industry.
