Downer funds engineering scholarships
15/11/2017
In support of the Victorian Government’s High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project, Downer has partnered with Chisholm TAFE and developed a Certificate II Engineering Studies pre-apprenticeship program.
The pre-apprenticeship has been designed with major Victorian infrastructure projects in mind and their future need for skilled engineers and tradespeople. Graduates of the program will be preferentially considered for engineering, mechanical or electrical trade apprenticeships for a range of Downer projects.
Downer is offering 12 scholarship placements to eligible candidates to the value of $750 through the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation to cover the cost of the course fees. The course will be delivered from the Downer Newport facility.

HCMT
The Evolution Rail consortium, comprising Downer, CRRC and Plenary, is delivering 65 new HCMTs for the Victorian Government. The $2.3 billion investment will result in 1,100 jobs with at least 15 per cent of the workforce as apprentices, cadets or trainees, and seven per cent of jobs for disadvantaged workers.
