Downer hits the tracks
13/03/2018
Downer recently completed construction of the race track pavements at The Bend Motorsport Park, located just outside Adelaide in South Australia.
The Bend Motorsport Park, a state-of-the-art facility, is one of the most significant developments in Australian motorsport history. At 7.77 kilometres, it is the second longest permanent racing circuit in the world.
Developed by the Peregrine Corporation, The Bend will begin hosting major sporting events over the coming months.
Mark Bowman, Civil & Structural Engineering Manager from Peregrine Corporation, said: “Downer’s significant experience in surfacing race tracks around Australia made them the obvious choice for delivering a world-class race track. Their planning, resourcing and execution of the works enabled them to deliver a quality result within the required timeframe”.
Downer has a 30-year history of delivering high quality race track pavements, including the Hidden Valley Motorsports Complex, near Darwin and the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria.
Mark Taylor, General Manager of Downer’s Airports and Specialised Pavements team, said: “The Bend is set to become an iconic sporting facility for South Australia, and will deliver local and international major events for the State. We are proud to have delivered this exciting project safely, on time, and to the highest quality.”
