Downer sponsors AusRAIL 2017
14/11/2017
Downer is a platinum sponsor of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest rail conference and exhibition event, AusRAIL 2017.
The AusRAIL event is being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and will expect over 7,000 attendees.
Along with contributing to three days of conferences, talks and technical sessions, Downer will also be showcasing their capabilities through a stand in the exhibition centre.
AusRAIL provides a great opportunity for Downer to talk about our recent contract wins and milestones, as well as demonstrate the calibre of our people and solutions.
Downer will be at Stand #337 at the conference from 21 - 23 November. You can register to attend at DownerRailInfo@downergroup.com.
You can learn more about the AusRail 2017 conference through their website.
Some of the major projects we will be showcasing are:
Sydney Growth Trains
The Waratah fleet - an order of 78 trains - today stands as the largest ever single order of rollingstock in Australia’s history. The design and manufacturing was undertaken by Downer, in conjunction with CRRC Changchun, and through-life support is managed by Downer at the Auburn Maintenance Centre. Downer is currently delivering another 24 trains and an upgrade to the Mortdale Maintenance Centre as part of the Sydney Growth Trains contract.
High Capacity Metro Trains
The Victorian Government is investing in 65 next-generation high capacity trains for the metropolitan network. The $2.3B investment is the largest single order of new trains in Victoria’s history and will be delivered through a Public Private Partnership with Evolution Rail, a consortium comprising of Downer, CRRC and Plenary. These trains will be the newest in Melbourne’s metropolitan fleet, capable of carrying about 20% more passengers than existing trains. They will first operate on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines and will eventually run through the Melbourne Metro Tunnel to Sunbury. The High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMTs) will progressively enter service from mid-2019. The HCMT Project will result in 1,100 jobs, including jobs in the wider supply chain. The workforce includes 15 per cent of positions for apprentices, trainees or cadets and seven per cent for disadvantaged workers.
