Downer wins two NECA awards
05/12/2016
Downer’s Yandi Sustaining project and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre project have taken out two awards at the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) national excellence awards.
Downer won the Industrial Large Project award for the Yandi Sustaining project in Western Australia, where our construction team demonstrated not only considerable technical expertise, but also a holistic understanding of the project through various initiatives integrating the electrical and instrumentation works into the project.
Downer also won the Commercial Large Project title for major electrical services at the new Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre with judges recognising Downer’s ability to deliver a technically innovative, high-quality outcome on time and on budget without incident for this landmark project.
In addition to the award wins, Downer third year apprentice Harrison Gray, who works on the Wheatstone project in Western Australia, was awarded runner up in the Industrial category of the National Apprentice and Trade Teacher Awards.
Downer’s Executive General Manager – Construction, Adam Cook, said he was delighted the project teams were recognised for the work they delivered by the National Electrical and Communications Association.
“Our success at the excellence awards is an acknowledgement of the outstanding achievements by our project teams to deliver quality electrical infrastructure works with an emphasis on safety. We’ve been fortunate to be involved in some exciting and innovative projects and we’re very pleased to be recognised for the work we do in order to deliver the very highest results for our customers.
“We were also very proud to see our third year apprentice, Harrison Gray, named runner up in the industrial award category. Harrison has worked hard to earn this honour, and the award is a testament to his work ethic and skills,” said Adam.
The NECA national excellence awards are an annual event with this year six Victorian projects, one New South Wales project, one Australian Capital Territory project and three Western Australia projects receiving the top national awards in front of 300 industry representatives including contractors, educators and government representatives.
