Wagga Wagga water team achieves 10 years MTI & LTI free
14/03/2018
Downer’s Wagga Wagga Water Services team has recently reached an outstanding safety milestone; 10 years without a medically treated or lost time injury.
Our Wagga Wagga Water Services team have celebrated a significant milestone, reaching 10 years without an MTI (Medically Treated Injury) or LTI (Lost Time Injury). The Wagga Wagga team operates and maintains three water treatment plants on behalf of the Wagga Wagga City Council.
Wagga Wagga Sewage Treatment Operations Manager, Matt Brill, credits this achievement to a strong safety culture. “We are a relatively small team that look out for each other, and believe in the philosophy of never walking past a standard you don’t accept.”
Stephen Jewell, Manager Operations from the Wagga Wagga City Council, congratulated Downer on the achievement. “Maintaining a good safety record is not a journey, but rather an ongoing, never-ending vigil that is not always appreciated by those who are kept safe. To achieve 10 years MTI and LTI free is an enviable achievement that speaks to good systems, consistent implementation and reinforcement, and an excellent attitude. I am envious. Congratulations.”
Stephen Mckay, Water Reclamation Coordinator from Wagga Wagga City Council, added, “I congratulate all individuals in the Downer team for achieving the milestones of no ‘Medical Treated Injuries’ and no ‘Lost Time Injuries’ during the last 10 years, whilst operating and maintaining the Bomen, Kooringal and Narrung Sewage Treatment Plants in Wagga Wagga. An outstanding and commendable achievement!”
Chris Yeats, Downer General Manager, Water Operations and Maintenance, said, “10 years injury free is fantastic, I’m proud of our team in Wagga Wagga. This achievement, in my view, is down to good planning, everyone looking after each other, and a continuous improvement ethos that is driven locally.”
