Construction work in your area
Downer is working on behalf of nbn to help improve Australia’s digital backbone in your area, by rolling out more fibre deeper into the nbn network and giving you fast and reliable phone and internet services.
What’s involved
The cables and equipment for the nbn network will be installed in existing pits and pipes where possible to minimise digging and excavation. If any works are taking place around your building we will be in contact with your Owners Corporation.
Please take care when near a construction zone and always follow pedestrian and traffic management instructions.
Whilst all care will be taken to minimise disruption during construction, please be aware:
- There may be some temporary footpaths and / or road closures
- There may be temporary noise and dust associated with the work
- Where possible please park your vehicles in private driveways
- We expect there will be no impact on your existing telecommunications network while work is being carried out
We will endeavour to restore any land affected during the construction to a similar condition to what it was before the activity began. Final restoration will be done as soon as practical after work is completed. Please take care when near a construction zone and always follow pedestrian and traffic management instructions.
After hours work
To ensure the safety of the public and minimise the impact on the local businesses, construction work may be carried out after normal business hours.
The works may involve:
- Installing cable through existing underground pipes or on existing overhead poles
- Digging and/or drilling on public property such as under footpaths or on nature strips
- Installing pits, similar to telecommunications pits you may already see in your area
Asbestos management
Airborne asbestos fibres can cause health problems, and your safety is our number one concern.
While undertaking work, Downer may discover products that contain or potentially contain asbestos material (or “ACM”). We are aware of this possibility and the safety controls we must implement if this occurs/
Where construction activities identify potential ADCM, we apply strict safety control and comply with all applicable asbestos laws and regulations. In some circumstances, this will include engaging specialist licensed asbestos removalists to remove the ACM.
If we are required to drill, handle, remove or dispose of ACM in your area or building you may see:
- Signage alerting the public to the potential existence of asbestos;
- Barriers defining the ‘asbestos work zone’ which you must not enter; and
- Accredited asbestos removalists or specialist personnel who are wearing protective gear.
At no time should anyone enter or collect debris from a worksite with asbestos signage and barriers in place.
Restoration work
Construction work has required restoration measures to be put in place outside or near your property. Affected areas will be restored in two stages:
- Temporary restoration is completed daily to keep work areas safe
- Final restoration will be done as soon as practical once construction work is complete
We will endeavour to restore the affected areas to a condition similar to what it was before construction.
