Infrastructure Sustainability
Downer applies the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating scheme on select infrastructure projects and assets.
The scheme evaluates economic, social and environmental performance across the phases of infrastructure assets. The IS rating scheme allows Downer to benchmark and drive sustainability performance, delivering more sustainable outcomes for our customers and end users.
The application of sustainability rating tools, such as the IS rating scheme, for nominated infrastructure projects allows us to integrate sustainability thinking into the asset’s whole-of-life, through the planning, design, delivery and operational phases. ISC’s rating scheme allows Downer to benchmark and drive sustainability performance within infrastructure projects and assets, delivering more sustainable outcomes for our customers and end users (including motorists and rail commuters). The scheme benefits Downer, our customers and community as it:
- Enables comparative analysis of infrastructure sustainability performance
- Provides a structure to assess sustainability in tendering processes
- Scopes whole-of-life sustainability risks for projects and assets, leading to smarter solutions that reduce risks and costs
- Fosters efficiency and reduces waste
- Drives innovation and continuous improvement to keep improving sustainability outcomes
- Builds and demonstrates credentials for taking sustainability seriously
- Aligns to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
