Max and Mark
Mark “Moof” Marsh was well-known around Downer’s Gladstone workshop. More than just a talented boilermaker and rigger, Mark was a great co-worker and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge.
When he unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack at work in April 2022, the team were determined to honour his memory and contributions to Downer, introducing a new apprenticeship in his name.
Working with Gladstone-based Apprentices & Trainees Queensland, the Downer team welcomed boilermaker apprentice Max Behrendt to site in June, where he will spend the next four years learning the trade Moof spent so many years perfecting.
Mark’s wife Trish and two sons also recently visited the Gladstone workshop to meet Max and Mark’s old workmates. The crew banded together to contribute $7,000 to Mark’s family, through a combination of sites, office donations and payroll deductions, with Downer matching the contributions.
“Moof was an important part of the Gladstone team who will be sorely missed. He was a real and genuine person. He was considerate and everything a friend should be,” said Claudius Kleynhans, Regional Shutdown Manager.
David Videroni, General Manager – Power and Energy for Downer’s Facilities and Asset Services business adds to this sentiment. “Through the apprenticeship in Mark’s honour, we’re so pleased to be able to provide an opportunity to the next generation of tradespeople, who contribute so much to this great community in Gladstone,” he said.
