Meet Monique
Media Communications Grad Monique Silk has had an interesting journey to becoming a Downer Graduate.
A Gunditjmara woman originally from Melbourne, she recently relocated to Sydney and secured a role as Communications Coordinator in the Downer Diversity and Inclusion team, where she first heard about the program.
“My manager told me about the Graduate Program. After hearing about the amazing opportunities that I would be exposed to, I decided to transition into a grad role which is helping me to learn new skills and develop,” she said.
“The opportunities that the Graduate Program provide are amazing and I can’t wait to further enhance my development and learn some new skills.”
Working at Downer no two days are the same, and Monique is exposed to a range of opportunities across the business.
“I have worked across multiple teams and the work that each team does to try and make Downer a better workplace has made me feel grateful to work for such an amazing company,” she says.
“I spend a lot of time drafting emails that need to be sent across the business and scheduling meetings and webinars for any events or training coming up. I help to run learning sessions with the Learning and Development team and coordinate with different lines of business what they would like to present in a Lunch n’ Learn. My role also includes writing communication pieces for any significant events or people to highlight across Downer’s channels.”
When not at work, Monique enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and friends, playing tennis, going on adventures or watching movies. She can’t stay away from studying for too long and has also just returned to university to start her Master of Marketing.
Her advice to anyone looking to start their career with Downer is simple:
“I would say to take up any opportunity you can that anyone gives you, it will give you more exposure to the business. This company is massive and the more exposure you get the more you will understand and learn how great Downer is.”
