Training and consultation
Training
Ongoing training is a key to a robust safety culture. Downer employees must complete general and job specific health and safety training. This includes:
- Downer company induction
- Downer’s annual Our Safety Focus program
- Site or project specific inductions
- Subject-specific training through registered training organisations (e.g. work at height, electrical safety, manual handling)
- Detailed instruction, training, mentoring, and supervision for competency.
Consultation
Downer communicates and seeks feedback on health, safety and wellbeing in a number of ways, including:
- Annual Employee Engagement Survey
- Community of Practice forums between operational and Zero Harm staff
- Consultation forums with employees and contractors (and their representatives), customers and suppliers
- Health and wellbeing promotion events (i.e. Movember, R U OK? Day)
- Our Safety Focus program designed to refocus employees and contractors on Zero Harm and those activities identified as significantly important to support a strong Zero Harm culture and performance
