Downer as authorised agent for SKF
26/11/2024
Downer as authorised agent for SKF, adds value for freight customers.
Australia’s leading provider of rail and transit systems, is proud to announce that it has signed a partnership with SKF to be an authorised agent for bearing overhaul, inspection and requalification in NSW.
SKF is a world-leading provider with expertise in the development, design and manufacture of bearings, seals, and lubrication systems. They also provide machine health assessment, engineering, and remanufacturing services.
Downer and SKF signed the partnership at AusRail 2024, signifying to more than 3,000 attendees at the largest rail event in Asia-Pacific, that two leading providers are working together to provide value-add for rail customers.
This partnership provides significant value-add for the Australian rail freight industry as now Downer can undertake bearing overhaul, inspection and requalification. Having re-entered the freight market in 2023, Downer has significantly increased wheel and bearing services through its Cardiff Facility, located in the heart of the Hunter Region.
Speaking of the partnership Troy Sparkman, EGM Freight & Motive Systems said, “I am excited that Downer is able to provide this value-add to our freight customers. Our team are able to provide an enhanced service offering to the rail industry, and we look forward to exploring future opportunities with our partners to continually add value for our customers.”
Downer’s Cardiff Rail Facility is home to 250 employees who provide services to help keep Australia running through both passenger and freight. The team also provide the critical link in maintaining the majority of Sydney’s train fleets, providing heavy haul, repair and modification capability for the Millennium, Waratah and other Sydney Trains’ fleets as required.
Patrick Hofstadler, GM Rail and Defence, SKF Australia said, “I am excited that SKF and Downer have reached this agreement. It’s an industry first in Australia and will bring a new dynamic into the rail industry when it comes to railway bearing inspection and requalification. SKF’s high quality parts and availability will contribute to Downer’s freight rail business for efficient service and turnaround.”
