Major maintenance overhaul ensures power station ready for summer

Downer’s Industrial & Power Generation team are currently working with AGL to deliver a major maintenance overhaul of Bayswater Power Station near Muswellbrook, NSW.

AGL Bayswater is one of the largest power stations in Australia. Commissioned in 1985, it has a capacity of 2,715 megawatts.

The maintenance outage will ensure the power station is in peak condition for summer, with Downer’s scope of work including the refurbishment of AGL’s mechanical plant, including scaffolding, mechanical, electrical and specialist welding, and works to the external sections of the unit.

Ben McQueen, Regional Manager NSW Power Generation, said Downer worked closely with AGL and its delivery partners over 12 months to plan and execute the three-month outage.

“It’s a job of massive scale and technical capability, involving 300 Downer employees and contractors that have been mobilised to site,” Ben said.
