Mareeba Wastewater Treatment Plant now open
21/08/2017
Downer and Mareeba Shire Council are pleased to celebrate the opening of the Mareeba Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The plant is located in Far North Queensland, approximately 60km west of Cairns.
“We’re very pleased to partner with Council in delivering the new wastewater treatment plant that will not only exceed effluent licence requirements, but also meet the future growth of the local community,” said Trevor Cohen, Executive Director, from Downer's Utilities team.
Mareeba Shire Council Mayor Tom Gilmore paid tribute to Downer in his address, “I would like to express my admiration for the extraordinary work on this site by the major contractor Downer, and all of those subcontractors who have played such pivotal roles in the delivery of this project, on time and under budget. Thank you so much for that, and congratulations to Trevor Cohen, his staff and associates.”
The new waste treatment plant will exceed the requirements of the environmental licence, and is an outstanding facility that has been designed to support current and future growth for the Mareeba community.
