Supreme Business Award

After a tough few days following the earthquakes and floods, the Porirua Business Awards went ahead as planned in order to celebrate the strength and hard work of the community.

Downer was named large enterprise winner, and also took home the Supreme Award.

This is the first time Downer, the main contractor for Porirua City Council, has entered the awards.

Speaking of recent events, Wellington Manager Lyall Hedges said the floods had tested the team to the limit, "The earthquake was bad enough but the floods the next day, and then the cleanup, really pushed us."

"I was blown away [with the award win] and it's really testament to our guys who rallied around after those floods. I'm rapt for us."

Congratulations to Lyall and the team on a well-desrved win, especially considering recent circumstances and the fantastic job everyone has been doing.
