Road surfacing materials

We are a leading manufacturer and supplier of bitumen-based products and an innovator in the sustainable asphalt industry and circular economy, using recycled products and environmentally sustainable methods to produce asphalt. This includes Reconophalt™, Australia’s first asphalt product containing high recycled content derived from waste streams that would otherwise be bound for landfill or stockpiled.

Downer operates two asphalt plants in Tasmania, producing top-quality products for use in road construction. We are one of the largest suppliers of asphalt, asphalt surfacing and sprayed seal in Tasmania.

Our asphalt production plant in southern Tasmania is the most technologically advanced in the state. At this plant we can make a product of the highest quality by precisely measuring and inputting ingredients during the blending process. Ensuring the right mix of inputs and strict quality control is essential for production of road surfacing material that includes a high proportion of recyclable content.

Downer is investing $10 million in construction of a state-of-the-art asphalt manufacturing facility in northern Tasmania, in a demonstration of its commitment to a long-term future in the state.

The new facility will replace an existing asphalt plant that’s reaching the end of its service life.
