Through advanced processing, Downer’s Reconomy business is redefining how waste is managed, materials are repurposed, and communities are supported.

In Australia, Our Reconomy business plays a central role in Downer’s circular economy strategy and has been established to provide end-to-end solutions in landfill avoidance and management. We use leading practices to actively divert waste from landfill and process suitable materials for reuse in established markets.

Reconomy’s advanced detritus processing solution transforms mixed waste streams including street sweepings, gully waste, glass fines, and non-destructive digging waste into valuable materials for construction, such as sand, aggregates, organic matter, and metals. These materials are repurposed into Downer’s asphalt products, replacing virgin materials and reducing landfill dependency.

Downer operates EPA-licensed Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) facilities across Australia, producing high-quality recycled asphalt via advanced plants and strict environmental controls, supporting sustainable road construction across Australia.

In New Zealand, Green Vision recovers construction and infrastructure materials from various Auckland sites which are then selectively recycled into premium materials to be repurposed.
