Downer Announces Foundational Sponsorship with Wellness in Infrastructure
Downer is committed to the wellness of our employees.
In recognition of this year’s World Mental Health Day (10 October) theme, ‘It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace’, Downer is delighted to announce that we have joined Wellness in Infrastructure as a foundational partner to promote mental health and wellbeing across Australia’s infrastructure construction industry.
Wellness in Infrastructure’s mission is to achieve world-class mental health and wellness standards within the infrastructure construction industry.
Downer has been involved with and supported Wellness in Infrastructure since 2018, with employees volunteering their time on the Steering Committee and Working Groups to help develop programs that proactively address the psychosocial hazards and barriers to healthy workplaces. We are proud to say that the framework tools are made freely available for all in the industry to use.
While this partnership is an important part of Downer’s philanthropic approach to supporting the communities in which we operate and aligns with our Zero Harm philosophy, we’re excited to expand the of delivery Wellness in Infrastructure programs and research across our business to improve the lives of our workforce.
Downer Transport and Infrastructure’s Chief Operating Officer, Murray Robertson, said:
“We are proud to support Wellness in Infrastructure as a foundational partner. They are doing amazing work. Their industry workplace wellbeing surveys have been instrumental in raising awareness of our industry’s mental health and wellbeing challenges and in driving positive change.”
“This support aims to improve the lives of workers in our industry by addressing challenges such as workplace injuries, mental health concerns, and the impact of long work hours, which collectively cost the industry around $8 billion annually.”
“We work in an industry with incredibly high demands on our people. We have an opportunity to support and be involved with an organisation that is focussed on developing interventions that benefit all infrastructure employees, aiming to achieve top-tier mental health standards across Australia’s construction sector; simply put, it’s a no-brainer to support Wellness in Infrastructure and use their programs.”
