Since 2017, Downer has played a pivotal role in the Bendigo Public Private Partnership (PPP), delivering integrated facilities maintenance services at Victoria’s largest regional hospital.

With a 25-year contract and over 550 personnel on site, Downer supports the hospital’s complex operations – including building management, security, portering, cleaning, food services, utilities and waste management, pest control, carparking & traffic management and materials distribution – across a facility that treats more than 49,000 patients annually. The hospital features 372 inpatient beds, 11 operating theatres, and a regional cancer centre, alongside a commercial precinct with childcare, accommodation, and retail.

Beyond operational delivery, Downer has demonstrated a strong commitment to social impact through our GROW Bendigo program. Launched in 2021 in response to post-COVID workforce challenges, the initiative reimagines recruitment by supporting individuals who have faced barriers to employment. In partnership with local organisations, Downer has helped over 180 people secure meaningful employment with us at Bendigo Health. The program was recognised with the 2024 Social Procurement Award at the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards, highlighting Downer’s commitment to both operational excellence and community impact.
