Downer secures WEL Networks contract

Downer New Zealand today announced it had been awarded a new contract by WEL Networks to deliver construction services for major and minor capital works on the Waikato region’s energy infrastructure.

The contract begins in April 2023 with an initial 3-year term, and a further renewal option of three years.

Under the new contract, Downer will be one of two delivery partners designing, procuring, constructing, installing and commissioning capital works projects on the distribution network’s assets, including distribution lines, overhead and underground and substations.

Downer New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer, Murray Robertson, said: “This is a strong endorsement of our capability, and further demonstrates our ability to bring world-leading solutions that deliver safety, quality and reliability for our customers.

“Downer has had a long and proud involvement with the Waikato, proactively contributing to the growth and development of the region. We are looking forward to expanding our services through partnering with WEL Networks to further enhance Waikato’s energy infrastructure.
