That’s why we’re proud to launch Fetu Pasifika, our new employee-led network created to uplift and empower our Pacific workforce across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Why Fetu Pasifika?

Pacific peoples make up 9% of New Zealand’s population, and approximately the same proportion of Downer’s workforce in New Zealand. With representation from over 30 Pacific communities, our Pasifika people bring a richness of culture, experience and perspective that strengthens who we are as a business.

In October 2022, a series of focus groups were held with Pacific team members to better understand their workplace experiences. From these insights, Fetu Pasifika was born.

More than a network – It’s a movement

Fetu Pasifika means “Star of the Pacific” – a powerful metaphor for guidance, connection and purpose. Just as our ancestors used stars to navigate the oceans and find new horizons, this network aims to help Pacific employees navigate their careers and thrive at Downer.

Through connection, support and visibility, Fetu Pasifika is here to celebrate Pasifika culture and foster a workplace where our Pacific community feels seen, heard, and empowered to succeed.

What’s next?

Over the coming months, Fetu Pasifika will roll out a series of initiatives to grow awareness, provide development opportunities, and create safe spaces for connection.
