Downer is proud to support Australia’s veterans, reservists and transitioning Australian Defence Force members by creating meaningful, long term employment opportunities across our business.
Downer is a signatory to the Veteran Employment Commitment, an Australian Government initiative delivered through the Veteran Employment Program.
Through this commitment, we demonstrate our ongoing focus on:
- Recruiting veterans into a broad range of roles
- Supporting veterans as they transition into civilian careers
- Creating workplaces where veteran employees are respected, valued and supported
This public commitment reflects our belief that employing veterans strengthens our business and contributes positively to the communities we serve.
Over 1,200 veterans are employed across the Downer Group.
More than 50% of our Defence training and range management workforce are veterans.
Recruitment
We actively encourage veterans, reservists and transitioning ADF members to apply for roles at Downer. Our recruitment practices recognise transferable skills gained through military service and focus on capability, experience and potential.
Support and retention
We aim to create an inclusive environment where veteran employees feel supported throughout their careers. This includes onboarding, access to wellbeing and support services, and opportunities for learning, development and progression.
