Victoria is moving forward – and fast.

Projected to become Australia’s fastest growing economy by 2028, the State is transforming through smart infrastructure, connected communities, and inclusive growth.

But progress doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes skilled hands, trusted partnerships, and deep local knowledge to deliver outcomes that matter. Downer has been delivering outcomes to support Victoria’s growth since the heady gold rush days of the 1860s.

Downer’s origins trace back to the Walker & Co foundry at Ballarat – established in 1863 during the region’s first gold rush, to manufacture equipment to support the State’s booming growth. Today, Victoria is still moving forward – with faster, safer journeys, cleaner energy, more homes, and more jobs. And Downer is still right behind with support.

From classrooms to construction sites, rail to renewables – Downer is helping build what’s next for Victoria, just as we have done for more than 160 years.

Our Big Build

From the Metro Tunnel to the Suburban Rail Loop, major projects are reshaping how Victorian communities live and move. And with the next phase of construction ramping up on State-shaping projects, Downer can help build what’s next – connecting transport and housing for generations to come. From rail infrastructure to rollingstock, or arterial and regional roads, Downer has unparalleled expertise, and the proven experience in Victoria.

Big Housing Build

Through The Big Housing Build program, the Victorian Government’s record investment in social and affordable housing is changing thousands of lives – and with more than 20 years’ experience in the Public Housing sector, Downer delivers facilities maintenance services with care and respect, and a commitment to ensuring we make tenants’ lives easier.

The Education State

Downer supports Victoria’s vision to deliver excellence in every classroom. We manage school facilities across the State with precision and care, so educators can focus on what matters most – teaching and learning.

A leader in energy transition

Victoria is taking bold action to accelerate progress towards renewable energy generation and storage assets – and Downer is already partnering with customers in Victoria, delivering assets including transmission infrastructure and battery storage systems that will unlock further renewable energy investment in the State.
