Enabling future BESS connections in the ACT
Enabling future growth and energy resilience, the new 132kV Zone Substation in the Molonglo Valley strengthens network capacity across the ACT while creating opportunities for future customer connections, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Downer has successfully delivered a contract to design, construct and commission a new 132kV substation in the Molonglo Valley, ACT on behalf of network owner Evoenergy. The new Zone Substation supports growth, electrification and increased network capacity across the rapidly expanding region.
Delivered on a full turnkey basis, the project involved the complete design, construction and commissioning of the substation, including the implementation and integration of advanced IEC 61850 protection, control and communications systems.
The increased network capacity provided by the new zone substation also creates opportunities for a range of future customer connections, including facilitating the connection of a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Downer brings extensive experience in supporting the connection of BESS projects across Australia. Working across transmission, distribution and renewable energy projects, Downer delivers the critical Balance of Plant infrastructure that connects storage systems safely and efficiently to the grid.
By combining deep technical expertise with end-to-end project delivery capability, Downer is helping customers strengthen and expand their networks to enable future growth.
