The Challenge
The culverts, ranging from 19–27 metres in length, were approaching the end of their service life, with declining structural integrity. Located beneath a major roadway, the works required a solution that minimised disruption to traffic while addressing long-term performance and capacity requirements.
Solution Delivered
PipeTech utilised its TUNNELINE in-situ reinforced concrete lining system to rehabilitate the culverts. This technology involves installing modular steel formwork inside the existing structure and applying self-compacting concrete under pressure to create a new internal lining.
TUNNELINE is well suited to hard-to-access locations, providing a durable, low-impact solution with a design life exceeding 100 years. The process delivers a smooth internal finish, improving flow performance while restoring structural strength. The system is designed in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, including AS3600, AS5100 and AS3725.
Headwall construction works were also completed to support the upgraded culvert structures.
Outcome
The rehabilitation significantly improved the structural integrity, capacity and reliability of the stormwater assets. The upgraded culverts will support future infrastructure demands, including potential road widening and increased traffic volumes.
This project demonstrates PipeTech’s capability to deliver innovative, long-lasting infrastructure solutions for Transport for NSW, while minimising disruption and future-proofing critical assets.
