In 2025, Downer completed preservation works on Moranbah Airport’s Runway 16/34 using Rhinophalt™, a sustainable treatment that seals and strengthens asphalt to prolong pavement life and reduce reconstruction costs.
The project required a 1,600 km journey from Sydney and adhered to strict mining, safety, and airfield standards. As the exclusive and approved applicator of RhinophaltTM in Australia and New Zealand, Downer was approached by BMA to apply this innovative preservation solution. Downer efficiently delivered this first RhinophaltTM airfield project in the mining sector, returning the runway to service promptly and improving its durability and value for regional aviation.
