Downer provides Kaipara District Council with a comprehensive range of open space management services, including parks, reserves and garden maintenance, litter control and mowing, walkway maintenance, sexton services, and maintenance of a range of playgrounds.

To consistently meet the needs of the community, our service delivery is responsive to seasonal changes, population growth, changing demographics, and the busy summer period.

We deliver these services in close partnership with Council and local iwi – Te Uri o Hau and Te Roroa. These relationships are fundamental to how we deliver services that place kaitiakitanga and manaākitanga at the centre, where we work with Mana Whenua to identify and integrate measures to restore Mauri, improve ecological outcomes, and build understanding of local climate, flora and fauna, and culturally significant places.

In addition to our core service delivery, we prioritise generating local employment and career pathway opportunities that benefit the local community. Downer has an established local presence in Dargaville, supported by our Whangārei depot and our Auckland-based teams. Wherever possible, we employ Kaipara locals, buy materials locally, and engage local subcontractors to deliver services. We ensure that local community groups and mana whenua have a clear voice and influence on their local amenities and environmental protection.
