State Highway 58 (SH58) is a critical road corridor, providing a critical east-west link between State Highway 2 and State Highway 1, with high volumes of traffic (over 19,000 commuters a day). We are currently delivering the SH58 Safety Improvements Project for the NZ Transport Agency, which is a major, Crown funded two stage project and Road of Regional Significance, to improve the safety and reliability of the section of road between State Highway 2 and Transmission Gully.
The completed project will see the installation of key safety infrastructure, including two new roundabouts with improved lighting and clear signage, pedestrian refuges and shared pathways around the roundabouts, road widening, new side and median barriers, and new culverts to manage water flows and improve road integrity.
The project is being delivered with robust project management, temporary traffic management, and environmental controls to protect workers, the surrounding environment and road users across the life of the project.
