We have established a longstanding partnership with CentrePort in Wellington, serving as their contractor of choice for pavement resurfacing and reactive maintenance.

Over the last decade our team has undertaken both pavement design and surfacing using Downer proprietary products such as EME2, which is ideally suited for the very heavy loads routinely encountered within the container and log terminals.

CentrePort is an intermodal hub linking road, rail, and domestic and international shipping services. We have completed various maintenance and construction projects such as the Rail onto Port project, which returned full rail access to the Port following the Kaikōura earthquake. The earthquake caused severe damage to the infrastructure assets at CentrePort due to the liquefaction of reclaimed land. As part of this work our Downer ITS teams also installed and now maintain the rail isolation system at the Port which is essential to operations with the interface of Port traffic and rail log and container shunts.

CentrePort has engaged Downer to carry out a large range of Civil work, including demolition and removal of contaminated fill, 3-waters installation, ducting and utility installation, ground resilience and granular pavement construction, heavy duty structural asphaltic surfacing, rail repairs and turnout replacements, lighting tower foundations and concrete footings, gantry installation, reactive maintenance to manholes and pothole repairs,  ITS rail isolation and weedspraying through our Downer OSM teams.
