Downer delivered Queensland’s first-ever locomotive in 1873, and we’ve been delivering for Queensland ever since.
Our history is deeply rooted in Queensland. Our Maryborough Rail Service Delivery facility has been a key part of the manufacturing industry in Queensland since 1869, and we owe the EDI in our name to the iconic Queensland firm, Evans Deakin Industries, founded in Brisbane more than 100 years ago.
We have proudly worked alongside the Queensland Government for more than 150 years, delivering essential services across the rail, road, water, gas, telco, health, education and defence sectors. And, as Queensland looks to the future with an eye on the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Downer is committed to continuing our proven partnership. Downer is uniquely positioned to support the three pillars of the Queensland Government’s objectives for the community.
Good jobs
Downer is among Queensland’s largest employers, with a workforce of more than 4,000 people in the Sunshine State. Driving opportunities across Queensland’s traditional and emerging industries, Downer helps grow a future-ready workforce. We enable Queensland communities to thrive by creating jobs through infrastructure projects, investing in training and apprenticeships, and growing technical capability across sectors.
